Head Mistress' Message
Though the winter moves on relentlessly, the vacations have come to a close and the school will now reverberate with the sounds and laughter of children. It would be wonderful to welcome them.
The winter months have been long, blistering yet interestingly with a lot of work on ground, accomplished.
Mid-February onward will be about training. The teachers will have several hours of in-depth, rigorous training, inductions and workshops, pivoting around best, global pedagogical practices that will add strength and dimensions to everyday teaching-learning in school. The goal is to design multidisciplinary links across grades, take stock of student learning and progress, up-skill and re-skill ourselves.
We have also been studying the National Education Policy and will implement our curriculum along the same lines. Education in DPS, Shimla will be child centered, will include play way methods and shall go beyond the realms of text books.
Apart from excelling in academics, we will engage our children in recreation and shall also display their talents/skills in various fields at least twice a month. This will be accompanied with an annual sports day, exhibition, annual concert, fete, educational outings and much more.
In today’s ever evolving educational landscape, the traditional classroom concept has undergone a profound transformation. However, amidst this change, the synergy between the parents and the teachers remains unchanged and is essential for a child’s growth and development. Effective parent - teacher collaboration serves as a bridge between home and school. It opens up channels of communication that are vital not just in tracking a child’s progress but also allows the teachers to gain valuable insights into a student’s learning style, preferences and challenges. With this knowledge they can tailor their teaching approach to meet the individual needs. Hence, parents are requested to scrape time from their hectic schedules to visit the teachers on the PTMs.
Reading will be a defining culture of the Delhi Public School, Shimla. We insist our parents read to their child, encourage him/her to read and invest in physical books too. There is nothing that comes close to the texture, feel and experience of a 'real' book and our children mustn't be bereft of that joy.
Data and research show that regular and continuous reading of books outside the curriculum improves school performance, positively impacts grades and marks. Of course, it opens up a whole new world of ideas, literature, science, and beyond. Its influence touches infinity.
Apart from excelling in academics, we will try to engage our children to display their talents in various fields at least once a week.
This is a peep into our school programs and future progress. It is hard to detail the nuances and essence of innumerable learning opportunities we endeavour to offer.
It will always be a pleasure to write to you and share our journey.
